How to Prepare for a Dolphin Tour in Myrtle Beach: Tips for a Better Trip

Oct 7, 2026 | dolphin watch | 0 comments

A dolphin tour can be one of the most memorable ways to spend time on the water in Myrtle Beach. A little preparation can help you feel comfortable, know what to expect, and enjoy the coastal scenery from the moment you leave the dock.

Voyager Deep Sea Fishing & Dolphin Cruises gives families and visitors an opportunity to explore the water while looking for wildlife in its natural environment. Since dolphins are wild animals, sightings and behavior can vary from trip to trip, which makes each outing different.

How Do You Choose the Right Trip?

Start by choosing a trip that fits your group. Consider the departure time, trip length, weather conditions, and the ages of the people traveling with you.

A morning trip may work well for families that prefer to start their activities early. Other travelers may enjoy getting on the water later in the day after spending the morning at the beach or exploring Myrtle Beach.

When planning a dolphin cruise, check the operator’s current schedule and trip information before you arrive. Knowing where to check in and how early to arrive can make the beginning of your outing easier.

What Should You Bring on a Dolphin Tour?

Comfort can make a big difference when you spend time on a boat. Conditions on the water may feel different from conditions on land, especially when there is a breeze.

Consider bringing:

  • Sunglasses
  • Sunscreen
  • A hat with a secure fit
  • A light jacket or extra layer
  • Comfortable shoes
  • A camera or phone
  • Water or permitted refreshments
  • Any personal items your family may need

Protect your phone, camera, and other belongings from spray. A secure bag can help keep smaller items together while the boat is moving.

If you are prone to motion sickness, plan ahead. Speak with your doctor or pharmacist about appropriate options if you are unsure what may be suitable for you.

Listen to the Crew Before Leaving the Dock

Pay attention to instructions from the captain and crew. They may explain safety procedures, areas of the vessel that passengers can use, and rules designed to keep everyone comfortable.

Following those instructions also allows the crew to focus on operating the vessel safely and helping guests enjoy the experience. If you have a question, ask before departure or during an appropriate time on the trip.

Parents should keep children nearby and explain that being on a moving boat is different from being on land. Simple preparation can make a family adventure in Myrtle Beach SC easier for everyone.

Why Is Patience Important While Looking for Dolphins?

Dolphins live and travel freely in the ocean. They do not follow a schedule, so responsible wildlife trips cannot control exactly where they will appear or what they will do.

That uncertainty is part of the experience. The captain and crew use their knowledge of the local waters and current conditions when searching for signs of wildlife.

During your trip with Voyager Deep Sea Fishing & Dolphin Cruises, enjoy the ride as well as the search. Coastal views, open water, seabirds, boats, and other sights can add to the experience even while you are waiting for dolphins to appear.

How Should You Behave Around Wild Dolphins?

Dolphin tour in Myrtle Beach SCRespecting wildlife is one of the most important parts of any trip on the ocean. Dolphins should remain wild and should be observed without encouraging unsafe interaction.

Do not attempt to feed, touch, or interfere with dolphins. Follow instructions from the captain and crew about where to stand and how to observe wildlife safely.

When you watch dolphins, remember that their natural behavior can be unpredictable. Some may surface briefly, while others may swim near one another, travel alongside the area, or disappear beneath the water for a period of time.

Help Protect the Ocean

Everything you bring onto the boat should stay on the boat unless the crew tells you otherwise. Even small pieces of plastic, wrappers, or other trash can become marine debris.

Keep loose belongings secure, especially when the wind picks up. If something needs to be thrown away, use the proper container or ask a crew member where to place it.

Responsible dolphin watching in Myrtle Beach SC means enjoying marine life without disrupting the environment. Small actions from each passenger can help keep local waters cleaner for wildlife and future visitors.

How Can You Take Better Photos?

Keep your camera or phone ready, but do not spend the entire trip looking through a screen. Wildlife can appear quickly, and you may enjoy the experience more when you take time to simply look around.

For better photos, try to:

  • Keep the horizon level.
  • Use burst mode for moving animals.
  • Avoid leaning over rails.
  • Hold your phone securely.
  • Take wider photos that include the water and coastline.
  • Follow crew instructions about where passengers may stand.

You do not need a perfect close-up to capture a memorable moment. Photos showing your family enjoying the boat and the surrounding scenery can be just as meaningful.

Make the Most of Your Time on the Water

A dolphin tour offers more than a chance to look for marine wildlife. It gives friends and families time together outdoors while seeing the Myrtle Beach area from a different perspective.

Stay curious and listen when the crew shares information about the waterways, wildlife, or local area. Children especially may enjoy learning why dolphins surface, how they travel, and what other animals live along the coast.

Remember that every outing is different. Weather, sea conditions, wildlife movement, and the season can all affect what happens during a trip.

Plan Your Myrtle Beach Dolphin Adventure

Preparation does not need to be complicated. Choose an appropriate trip, dress for conditions on the water, follow safety instructions, respect marine wildlife, and bring a camera for the moments you want to remember.

It was thunderstorms earlier and the crew got out towels and wiped everything down-Captain very personable and getting his crew in line to make sure everyone had a good time. We didn’t really care if we saw dolphins or not? We saw one! But it is a very pleasant boat ride with good facilities and clean- good crew and nice boat- unbeatable for the price! Everyone on board was very pleasant. An all around good time. We went later at 6 pm, more for the sunset and boat ride than the dolphins! Very enjoyable.
