October Fishing in Myrtle Beach: Why Fall Is a Great Time to Head Offshore

Oct 5, 2026 | fishing Myrtle Beach | 0 comments

October fishing gives Myrtle Beach visitors a chance to enjoy the Atlantic during one of the most comfortable times of the year. Cooler temperatures, changing seasonal conditions, and active fall fish can make an offshore trip an exciting addition to an October vacation.

Voyager Deep Sea Fishing & Dolphin Cruises offers trips for visitors who want to experience the waters off the Grand Strand. Whether you are an experienced angler or planning your first trip offshore, fall can be a rewarding time to get out on the water.

Why Is October a Good Month for Deep Sea Fishing?

October brings a noticeable change to the South Carolina coast. Summer heat begins to fade, and cooler days can make spending several hours on a boat more comfortable.

Seasonal changes also influence fish movement and feeding patterns. Water temperatures gradually shift during fall, which can affect where different species are found and how active they may be.

Another advantage is the atmosphere. Fall visitors may find October less hectic than the peak summer vacation season, making it an appealing month for a fishing adventure.

Of course, offshore conditions can change quickly. Wind, waves, water temperature, and other factors affect every trip, so no specific catch can ever be guaranteed.

What Fish Can You Catch During October Fishing?

The species available during October depend on the trip, water depth, location, weather, and current conditions. Captains use their experience and recent activity to determine where to fish.

Depending on conditions and applicable seasons and regulations, anglers may encounter species such as:

  • Black sea bass
  • Vermilion snapper
  • Triggerfish
  • Grouper
  • Grunts
  • Porgies
  • Amberjack
  • King mackerel
  • Other seasonal offshore species

Some species stay closer to reefs, ledges, and bottom structure. Others move through open water or follow baitfish along the coast.

Fishing regulations, size limits, and open seasons can also change. Your crew can explain which fish may legally be kept during your trip.

Does Fall Weather Make Fishing More Comfortable?

For many people, October temperatures are easier to handle than the intense heat of midsummer. You can still get plenty of sun, but cooler air may make a long day offshore feel more comfortable.

However, fall weather can vary from day to day. A calm morning can feel very different from a windy afternoon, so anglers should check the forecast and follow instructions from the captain and crew.

Voyager Deep Sea Fishing & Dolphin Cruises can also help guests understand what to expect before departure. Conditions at the dock may differ from those farther offshore, making preparation important.

How Should You Prepare for October Fishing?

Good preparation can make your day on the water much easier. Fall conditions can change, so dressing in layers is often a practical choice.

Consider bringing:

  • A light jacket or sweatshirt
  • Comfortable, non-slip shoes
  • Sunglasses
  • Sunscreen
  • A hat with a secure fit
  • Water and appropriate snacks
  • Any personal medication you may need
  • A small bag for personal belongings

Even when temperatures feel cool, sun exposure remains a concern on open water. Reflection from the ocean can increase your exposure, so sunscreen is still useful in October.

If you are prone to motion sickness, plan before leaving the dock. Ask your doctor or pharmacist about appropriate options if you are unsure what you can safely take.

Should Beginners Try an Offshore Trip in the Fall?

Yes. Beginners do not need years of experience to enjoy a fishing charter. A professional crew can explain equipment, techniques, safety procedures, and what to do when a fish bites.

Listen carefully during instructions and ask questions when something is unclear. Learning the basics is part of the experience, especially for first-time anglers.

Families should also consider the length of the trip. A shorter option may work better for children or guests who have never spent several hours offshore, while experienced anglers may prefer a longer trip.

What Makes Fishing in Myrtle Beach SC Different in October?

Fall brings a different feel to the Grand Strand. Visitors can enjoy the coast after the busiest part of summer while still having plenty of outdoor activities to choose from.

Ocean conditions and seasonal fish movement also make each outing different. Instead of expecting one particular species, anglers can enjoy the uncertainty that makes offshore fishing exciting.

The trip itself is part of the experience. Traveling offshore, watching the coastline disappear behind you, learning from the crew, and spending time on the Atlantic can be just as memorable as bringing a fish to the boat.

How Can You Get the Most From Your Fall Fishing Trip?

Arrive early enough to check in without feeling rushed. Eat a sensible meal beforehand, stay hydrated, and bring clothing that allows you to adjust as temperatures change.

It also helps to keep realistic expectations. Fishing in Myrtle Beach SC depends on nature, and even experienced captains cannot control weather, currents, fish movement, or feeding activity.

Instead, focus on enjoying the entire day. Watch the water, listen to the crew, learn new techniques, and appreciate the chance to spend time offshore.

Voyager Deep Sea Fishing & Dolphin Cruises gives Myrtle Beach visitors an opportunity to add an authentic offshore experience to their fall vacation. October can be an excellent time to trade a day on land for a day on the Atlantic.

It was thunderstorms earlier and the crew got out towels and wiped everything down-Captain very personable and getting his crew in line to make sure everyone had a good time. We didn’t really care if we saw dolphins or not? We saw one! But it is a very pleasant boat ride with good facilities and clean- good crew and nice boat- unbeatable for the price! Everyone on board was very pleasant. An all around good time. We went later at 6 pm, more for the sunset and boat ride than the dolphins! Very enjoyable.
